History of Koenig & Bauer
Koenig & Bauer, a pioneer in printing machinery, boasts a rich history dating back to the early 19th century. In 1814, Friedrich Koenig and Andreas Bauer developed the first steam-powered printing press for the newspaper The Times. Three years later, in 1817, they founded the company Schnellpressenfabrik Koenig & Bauer in a monastery in Oberzell near Würzburg. The company quickly grew and innovated — in 1876, it delivered its first rotary printing press. A significant milestone came in 1886 when Albrecht Bolza, Friedrich Koenig's grandson, joined the company. Koenig & Bauer also expanded through acquisitions — in 1836, it established a branch in Vienna, and in 1898, Planeta was founded in Radebeul, later becoming part of Koenig & Bauer. By the end of the 19th century, the company had produced over 5,000 printing presses, cementing its position as an industry leader.
